A. NMR User Fees

NMR users are charged according to Time Sharing Program (TSP) Users and Walk-in Users. The TSP Users need to sign the NMR User Contract, while the Walk-in Users need to fill the User Information Form.

B. NMR Time Reserve Policy

     (1)   If spectrometer is busy, one group normally cannot reserve more than two weeks.

(2)   User needs to write down reserved time period and user’s phone number on the reservation book so that the manager or other users can reach the user easily.

(3)   If a user wants to cancel his reservation, the user needs to notify the manager as early as possible. Otherwise, the idle hours in the reserved period will be counted to the user.

(4)   If two groups want to reserve a same time period, the group having more unused hours in TSP (Time Sharing Program) or our Contract has the first priority.

(5)   Normally, the 800 should be used to collect data of long time experiments. Titration or sample test should be performed on the 600.

C. NMR User Contract

The Keck/IMD NMR Center

The University of Houston

The Keck/IMD NMR Center (NMR Center: www.chem.uh.edu/imd/nmr) at the University of Houston is a research facility providing state-of-the-art technologies for the study of the structure and dynamics of biomolecules and various small molecules.  The facility has 600 and 800 MHz NMR spectrometers (Bruker Avance) equipped with four detection channels and multinuclear RT-Probes (RT-Room Temperature). A Cryo-Probe, which gives ~4-fold sensitivity enhancement, will be installed on the 800 MHz NMR spectrometer in the first half of 2006.

Users of the NMR facility will be assessed a fee according to hourly or Time-Sharing Member use.  The schedule of the user fees is here

This NMR Service Contract (Contract) is for the annual enrollment of members of the Time-Sharing Program (TSP) of the users of the NMR Center.  The period of the Contract is one year and renewable upon mutual agreement. The enrollment period is September of each calendar year and the annual membership fee is based on the percent use of the instrument during its service hours.  Minimal subscription of TSP Membership is one percent. Invoices will be sent during the last month of each quarter.  A TSP member will agree the following policies:

1. The membership fee will be invoiced quarterly at the third month and must be received within a month of the invoicing date. If a Member neglected the payments of the membership fee in two consecutive quarters, the member will automatically lose his/her membership. Under this situation, the prior use of NMR time in the period of the contract will retroactively rated as Walk-in User.

2. The prescribed use (except for unexpected, extended instrument down time) as a Member User is guaranteed for the year. But in general, the Membership is not transferable to next year or to other users.

3. In case of a scheduling conflict, in general the user of more unused hours in TSP will have higher priority.

4. When the balance of the prescribed hours of a Member User reaches zero, the use of the NMR instrument by a Member User will be billed according to the Walk-in User.

5. If the instrument is free at the time of requesting use, a Member User will have the permission to use the instrument even the prescribed Member User hours have reached zero.  There will be no additional fee charged under this situation.

6. The TSP membership fee does not include operator assisted hours or other non-standard use, which will be charged as according the Fee Schedule.

7. The Membership Fee does not include additional charges incurred due to significant repair.  In such cases, all users of the last two years will be asked to share the cost.  The portion of the repair cost sharing will be rated according to the usage percent as recorded, but it will be capped to $2,000 per user per event unless negotiated separately.

8. For publications using data, all or in part, generated using an instrument at the NMR Center, acknowledgment should be made to the Keck/IMD NMR Center, funded by the W. M. Keck Foundation and the University of Houston.

I accept the above TSP terms.

I request the time-sharing of the 600 MHz for 19.06% (1391.4 hours) and the 800 MHz for 19.06% (1296.1 hours) for the period of September 1, 2005 to August 31, 2006, and my TSP Membership fee is $(19.06´255.5 + 19.06´374.0)~$12,000, thus $3,000, per quarter payable to the Center at the University of Houston. The number of hours above is counted for data collection with RT-Probes. I understand that every hour data collection with the Cryo-Probe will be calculated as two hours with RT-Probe.
